On "tapa" the world at Costa Brava

Surprised the wife with a long overdue date and decided to finally try Costa Brava in Pacific Beach. I have shopped at their store, Pata Negra , but always forget to eat at the restaurant.

We started with the octopus in a vinegar dressing and it was delicious. The octopus was so tender and fresh. It was the perfect dish on a warm summer evening.

Next dish we had was the snails in a garlic aioli. The snails were awesomely chewy and perfect coated in the hot bubbling garlic aioli. We asked for more bread multiple times in order to satisfy the craving to dip into the sauce.

This dish was by far my favorite, because as you all know I am a slow roasted meat slut. This is the ox tail in a thick wine braise with crispy fried potatoes. The ox tail was achingly tender and was basically meat jelly that disappeared on your tongue in a magical puff of unctuous delight. The potatoes were expertly fried and not greasy at all. The outside was light and crunchy , while the insides were fluffy like mashed potatoes , and when combined with the gravy from the ox tail , they became some kind of mythical beast that slayed my tongue warrior.

And the hits keep coming! This is the morcilla or blood sausage and it's magnificent. It didn't have that mineral blood taste that is sometimes welcomed, but never the less it was tasty. Although this seems like a simple dish of sliced sausage and sautéed onions, once you take the first bite you can taste the time and care that went into making this dish

Ahhhh and last, but certainly not least , were the little clams in a simple white wine broth that tasted anything but simple. Tender little clams swimming in a fresh sea jacuzzi accented with garlic and parsley and set off with a gentle squeeze of lemon ..... Delicious
