Left Coast Extravaganza Continues: Monterey or Bust or When We Gonna See Da Fishies Daddy?

We started off this day with a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. After missing the exit ( by alot) we finally made it to the fishes as the Kid would say. There are so many pictures and so many cool things , that i am just gonna bombard you with these images.

Whew we made it folks. That was some cascade of pics. Now I know this seems like we went from food blog to a Mutual of Omaha special ( Hi, I'm Marty Stouffer), but we only ate one time in Monterey and it wasn't that special, but here it goes..

The Kid's pasta

The Wife's pasta with seafood and a cream sauce. It was pretty tasty

I got the combo of Fish and Chicken and Chips. It was nicely fried but the breading kept coming of the fish when I dipped it. Overall not a bad eating experience. After eating lunch we hit the road again so we could make it to San Fran before it got too late. Stay tuned for the exciting two part conclusion!!

Up the Coast We Went Part 1 : Santa Barbara

In honor of some of our friends getting married, we packed the car and headed up to San Francisco. The wife planned a really nice road trip up the coast for a little pre wedding vacation. We took off to Santa Barbara in hopes to not only have a sweet time, but also to escape the brutally oppressive heat we had been experiencing. The plan was to enjoy some awesome smoked salmon from Point Loma Seafoods as our breakfast accompanied by some cream cheese and bagels, so we went tried searching for a spot to pick some up that was on our way north. After striking out in the bagel search, we decided to just hit up Elijah's deli in La Jolla. Score on the bagels, but apparently Tuesday morning is a bad time to get cream cheese. The wife decided to just walk over to the Cvs and grab some while the Kid and i got the car. When we finally fulfilled our breakfast dreams, I realized that we forgot our wedding clothes hanging in the bedroom. Back to the house we roll.

Delicious breakfast lovingly prepared by the Wife

Coming in for the kill

After getting to Santa Barbara, our first stop was C'est Cheese (yes it's an awesome name). This is a great local cheese shop owned by husband and wife team of Micheal & Kathryn Graham. It's been around for six years and has over 140 cheeses, a salumi selection (with plans to try and make their own), nice wine pairings and selections, and a sweet cheese of the month club.

After tasting at least 6 magnificent cheeses, we bought a slice of enchanting , mouth rocking Sharfun Max which is a type of swiss and a sandwich called the Goat that has raw goat cheddar , goat gouda,Spanish chorizo, sweet roasted piquillo peppers, arugula. We took this little bounty and went to a cool local park so the Kid could burn off some energy.

As the day wore on we got a serious hunger on, so we hit up a place that has changed our burrito life. Yes we live in one of the greatest taco shop lands in the country. Yes we have awesome 24 hour availability to sweet burritos, but nothing prepared us for Super Cuca's (yes it sounds like it looks). This burrito was so delicious we actually bought a couple on the trip back to San Diego.

So beautiful

Gorgeous carnita inside

Destroyed a sweet strawberry paleta

We then went to the cool little pier and walked around a little to enjoy the cool , beautiful weather.

you get to drive on the pier to park

As it got later into the evening, the hunger crept up yet again ( good thing this is a food blog). We headed to an area a little ways down from the pier that had some restaurants to search for some good seafood. The Wife Yelped a place called Brophy Bros. it looked really good so we threw caution to the wind.

It was a long wait, so we walked around the marina area enjoying the sights

Nice sourdough hunk

Really good clam chowder

Seafood feast

Really nice Grilled chicken sandwich

Saw these guys while leaving the restaurant. They are loading sea urchin. By my count it was almost 3,000 pounds or so. We ended the night in our hotel room ready to crash and rest up for the next days travels to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
